Success with Acupuncture

Acupuncture for Infertility Case Study

I have seen some great success with acupuncture for infertility. My favorite story is about a patient who was 41 years old seeking help with infertility.  She tried getting pregnant for 3 years and had been seeing a fertility specialist for some time.  After spending thousands of dollars on in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures she came to my office for treatments of acupuncture and herbs.  This was her last resort.  I started her with weekly treatments at first and then every week and a half to two weeks.  She was an excellent patient and very compliant with my instructions. She made many changes to her diet, exercise, and the reduction of stress in her life and she took her herbs faithfully. After 3 ½ months she became pregnant!  She had a full term, healthy baby girl.

She continued her acupuncture when she was able to, about once or twice a month for overall health.  Because of her age she decided to wait only a year and a half before trying to get pregnant again.  She started with weekly treatments again.  After four months of cycles she became pregnant again.  This time she had a healthy baby boy!

Acupuncture for Hypothyroidism Case Study

A 56 year old woman came in for treatment of hypothyroidism.  She complained of having low energy and was on medication for her thyroid.  Acupuncture raised her energy level and improved her emotional health and made her feel better.

Shortly after starting her treatments her doctor found a mass on her thyroid. A biopsy was required.  The results looked suspicious and removal of her thyroid was suggested.  Not wanting to have her thyroid removed she decided to wait a little longer and see if acupuncture and herbs would help.  After 3 ½ months of treatment and diet change her mass on the thyroid started to shrink!

Acupuncture for Menopause Case Study

A 48 year old woman in menopause came to see me with 2 to 3 hot flashes an hour.  She was at her wits end.  During the day this brought on irritability as it went on from morning until night.  The hot flashes and sweating kept her from sleeping at night.  She wasn’t interested in starting Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), she wanted to try something natural.  I started her on an herbal formula immediately and acupuncture 1 to 2 times per week to start.  After a few treatments she started to notice the hot flashes were down, only having about 1 every two to three hours.  With her treatments, diet changes, exercise, and taking her herbs faithfully, they were less intense and kept decreasing.  She noticed they would come on at stressful moments or on a hot or warmer day, but were less intense and shorter in duration.  She still gets some symptoms but felt they were under control.

Menopause is a natural part of life for a woman’s hormonal journey.  While it is challenging to deal with, it can be made much more tolerable with Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches.  If a woman is willing to make some life style changes and practice healthy habits, the transition is much more easily dealt with. This patient still gets maintenance treatments, which keeps her balanced and her qi flowing smoothly.
